The Alsace-Lorraine region of France is in its north-east corner, bordered by the Vosges Mountains and the Black Forest of Germany. We have two barges for barging in Alsace-Lorraine, La Nouvelle Etoile and Panache.

Major Canals of Alsace-Lorraine, France

The Canal du Rhône au Rhin, completed in 1855, is an important watershed canal of the French waterways, connecting the Rhine to the Saône and the Rhône and, therefore, to the North Sea and the Mediterranean.

The Canal de la Marne au Rhin connects the river Marne and the Canal entre Champagne et Bourgogne with the port of Strasbourg on the Rhine. This canal was designed to connect Paris and the north of France with Alsace-Lorraine, the Rhine, and Germany. The 195-mile canal (313 km) was the longest in France when it opened in 1853.
