Your Cruising Home on the 300-Year Old Canal du Midi
Slipping along at a gentle pace, sipping something cool, admiring some of the most beautiful of France's countryside and looking forward to enjoying the very best of French regional cooking.
During the course of the week, Emma will wind her way approximately 80 kilometers along the canal which was built during the reign of Louis XIV. You can visit ancient villages where time appears to stand still, country chateaux where you can taste the wine grown in their own vinyards, or shop at the local markets where you will be amazed by the colourful displays of fresh fruit and vegetables. You can cycle along the towpath if you are feeling energetic, or you can just relax on board and watch the world glide by.

| A klipperaak built in Belgium in 1905, Emma spent the first 60 years of her life carrying cargo along the canals of France. Towed by mules with a little help from the wind and occasionally the skipper and his wife. Amazingly, her first engine was only fitted in 1970. Thirty years afterwards, Liz and René Jacquot saw her beauty and potential, and waved their magic wand... | Another century, another world later, but the same unhurried pace. Lovingly restored and now a fully-equipped floating home accommodating up to six guests. Why not return to another time without giving up the comforts of modern life? Visit ancient villages and medieval castles, taste regional wines in the vineyards, explore local markets, walk or cycle along the towpath in the shade of ancient plane trees, or just soak up the sun. |
