canal du midi mapSunday, Day 1 Narbonne to Sallèles d’Aude
Passengers are met in Montpellier, by the Captain at 4pm and escorted by minibus to Enchante, moored in Sallèles d’Aude. Champagne welcome followed by dinner on board.

Monday, Day 2  Sallèles d’Aude to Argeliers
Morning cruise through the series of locks and narrow bridges of the Robine Canal, built after the Canal du Midi to link Narbonne and the Mediterranean, to the charming and historical village of Argeliers. Afternoon excursion to Minerve, the ancient capital of the Minervois, which boasts a 12th century Cathar fort surrounded by deep limestone gorges.  Besieged by Simon de Montfort in 1215, its hilltop location affords spectacular views. Followed by an excursion to “Oulibo”, Occitan for olive. This cooperative olive oil press is a great opportunity to sample the famous Lucques olive. Dinner aboard.

Tuesday, Day 3 Argeliers to Capestang
Fascinating morning tour of Carcassonne.  Dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, this is the most complete medieval fortified city in existence today with its 52 watchtowers, portcullis and extraordinary repertoire of defenses, which resisted the many armies that tried to storm this glorious Camelot setting. In the afternoon we cruise along the historic winding Canal du Midi to Capestang where we will moor overlooking the 13th Century Collegiate. Dinner aboard.

Wednesday, Day 4 Capestang to Beziers
This morning’s excursion is to Narbonne, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived.  Enjoy a visit to the Archbishop's Palace and the indoor market at the hub of this bustling canal side town, where you will have time to shop or simply absorb the relaxed atmosphere. Afternoon cruise, taking us the through the very first canal tunnel at Malpas one of the many engineering prowess unique to the Canal du Midi, to Beziers where we will moor at the top of the Fonsérannes locks. Dinner ashore.

Thursday, Day 5 Beziers to Portiragnes
This morning we descend the flight of seven locks to Beziers, crossing the aqueduct over the River Orb and continue cruising to Portiragnes where the Canal du Midi is at its closest to the Mediterranean. Afternoon excursion to Pezenas, a delightful village, mostly famous for its associations with the famous French playwright Moliere, who is said to have written many plays while staying here. Dinner aboard.

Friday, Day 6 Portiragnes to Agde
This morning we visit the 12th Century Cistercian Abbey of Valmagne, once one of the wealthiest abbeys of France it was turned into a working winery after the revolution thus preventing it from become a stone quarry. Afternoon cruise from Portiragnes to Agde where you will have the opportunity to visit the old Greco/Phoenician port of Agde and explore its narrow, mediaeval streets carved from the Languedocian hills’ black volcanic stone. Farewell Dinner aboard.

Saturday, Day 7 Agde to Montpellier
After breakfast depart Agde and return to Montpellier by midday.

This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change. On alternative weeks the cruise operates in reverse direction and the pickup and drop off points are reversed.
