Canal du Midi : Marseillan - Beaucaire, France
STANDARD CRUISE ITINERARY
Sunday, Day 1 - Marseillan
Guests are met at the designated meeting point and transferred in the minibus to Anjodi, moored in the fishing port of Marseillan. Champagne welcome and dinner on board.
Monday, Day 2 - Marseillan to Bouziques
Morning excursion to the unique 'Vermoutherie' of Noilly Prat, with a tasting. Return to the barge for lunch followed by a cruise passed the oyster beds across the Etang de Thau. Dinner on board.
Tuesday, Day 3 - Bouziques to Arsquiers
Morning cruise to Les Arsquiers and then a tour of the Cistercian Abbey of Valmagne. Return to the barge for lunch for a further cruise to the Abbey of Maguelonne. Dinner on board.
Wednesday, Day 4 - Arsquiers to Sete
Cruise the Canal du Rhone a Sete today, passing the pink flamingos and the white horses, of the Camargue National Park. We moor in the ancient walled city of Aigues Mortes and climb the 12th century defensive Tower of Constance. Our more energetic guests may wish to walk the one mile circumference of the town on the parapet of its walls. Dinner is taken ashore at a local auberge specializing in dishes of the Camargue.
Thursday, Day 5 - Sete to St Giles
We make an early start, and after passing several herds of the wild black bulls, we moor at St Giles. After lunch we visit Arles, home of Van Gogh. And perhaps if there is time we can also explore the Arena, St. Trophime’s basilica and the Museum of Provencal life on foot, though the pedestrianized heart of this old capital of the Camargue. Dinner on board.
Friday, Day 6 - St Giles to Beaucaire
Morning cruise to Beaucaire and our final moorings. After lunch we visit Avignon and begin by climbing the many steps to the Rocher des Doms, the Papal gardens attached to the Palais des Papes, which we then tour, a massive monument to the era of the 'Other Rome’, when the popes moved to France. After a stroll though the vibrant shopping district of Avignon, return to the barge for the Farewell Captains Dinner.
Saturday, Day 7 - Beaucaire
After breakfast depart the barge and transfer to the designated drop off point.
NOTE: On alternate weeks, cruise will be in reverse direction. This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change.
